BB93 was published by the Department for Education in England to provide guidance on the minimum performance standards for acoustics in schools. The purpose of the document is to ensure that school buildings provide the right acoustic conditions to enable effective teaching and learning.
BB93 is used by acoustic consultants, architects, developers and designers to aid the design and testing of new and refurbished school buildings in the UK.
Poor acoustics in education buildings can hinder communication between teachers and pupils. To ensure optimum conditions, a pre-determined set of criteria must be met throughout.
Below are some examples of BB93 performance standards :
. Indoor Ambient Noise Levels (IANLSs)
. Sound insulation between teaching rooms and other spaces
. Sound insulation of floors and ceilings
. Reverberation in teaching and study spaces
. Noise control in sports hall and swimming pools.
. Sound absorption in corridors and stairwells.
. Open plan teaching spaces
Through detailed computer modelling we provide bespoke acoustic design work for your development to meet BB93 criteria. We introduce a safety margin into all calculations to minimise the risk of failure through physical variables such as workmanship.
Prior to the completion, testing must be carried out by a qualified acoustic consultant according to procedures set in BB93. Blue Acoustics have the expertise and equipment to provide this service and the necessary reporting to get the project signed off.
